Arts and Music

Performing Arts

Shreiner emphasizes the performing arts program as a method of teaching basic dramatic skills and as a tool to help students develop self-confidence. It is amazing to watch the children develop from year to year as they learn to sing, project their voices, and finally add characterization to the roles they play.

The winter and spring shows are held in our performing arts center, and offer students in 3K through 2nd grade a chance to be up on stage. What a joy for all of us (parents included) to see these rising stars!

Students in 3rd through 8th grades are involved with end-of-the-year performances such as Willy Wonka, Shreiner House Rocks, Bugsy Malone, and more. Each student has the opportunity to be engaged in some aspect of creating an amazing performance. This is a favorite school tradition.

Studio Art

All students, in 2K through 8th grade, experiment with a variety of artistic mediums such as clay, charcoal, and paint as part of the curriculum. In addition, we study the work of artists such as Michelangelo, van Gogh, and Picasso.

Preschool
The Preschool classrooms include a “gallery” of arts and crafts projects made by the students to enrich the learning environment. In addition to daily arts and crafts, there is a special day set aside each month for unique craft projects.

Lower School
Lower School students visit the art studio every week. They learn basic artistic concepts, such as primary colors, and study different artists and types of art.

Middle School
Middle School students have art class twice per week. Their class time allows for each individual to grow and excel in his or her artistic talents and interests.

Music

All students, in 2K through 8th grade, study music as part of the curriculum. The students learn about different musical instruments, and have the opportunity to try playing. They also sing and study music theory. Guitar classes are offered as part of the Before School Program, from 7:15-8:00am.
