Parents
At Shreiner Academy, parent involvement is integral to the overall success of each student and the school as a whole. Parents are encouraged to participate in activities; to join us for events, holidays, and field trips; and to attend our monthly parent meetings ("Head to Head"). We always welcome your feedback. If there’s something you’d like to see us do differently, or something you think we do well, please let us know!
January Head to Head Recap
On Wednesday, January 13, Shreiner hosted its monthly Head of School/Parent meeting with a special guest speaker. NWEA Senior Account Executive for Education, Ms. Vicki McCoy, joined Shreiner Head of School, Sarah Walker, and classroom teachers Leigh Anne Spaulding, Elaine Gutenstein, and Rachel Turner for an informative question and answer session open to parents. Ms. McCoy gave a PowerPoint presentation to parents detailing the application of the Northwest Evaluation Association’s Measure of Academic Progress assessment (MAP test). The MAP test is given to Shreiner students in grades K-8 three times a year. Ms. Spaulding (Shreiner’s NWEA coordinator) provided the audience with an overview of the assessment process, and Ms. Gutenstein and Ms. Turner shared examples of how they use the data for individualized instruction in the classroom.
Shreiner is the first school, public or private, in the Atlanta area utilizing this incredible tool that is normed to both state and national standards. The NWEA MAP test is currently used in over 3,400 schools nationwide. The true value in the NWEA MAP test is that it provides information immediately to both the classroom teacher and the student about individual progress, growth, and need—beyond any standardized achievement test. Shreiner is in its second year of using the MAP assessment tool, and American Education Group has provided tremendous support in our shared vision. Shreiner has had two training sessions for faculty this year through in-service opportunities with experts in the field from NWEA. The MAP test provides teachers detailed information about student progress and needs in the areas of Language Arts, reading, and math. Students take the assessment at the beginning, middle, and end of the academic year. Each time, a child receives a RIT score that gives a “starting point in time”/ a “ready for instruction now” level. The information provided not only enables our teachers to have a valuable picture of a child’s progress to date, but importantly allows the teacher to individualize to the student’s needs. In addition, Shreiner faculty members are using data gathered from these tests to constantly evaluate and align the curriculum between and among the grade levels and disciplines.

Shreiner has high academic standards while maintaining a fun, friendly, loving and relaxed atmosphere. Other private schools in the area don't have that kind of learning environment. The staff is very accessible and easy to work with. Shreiner has a great deal of diversity in its student population for a school of its size.
