2K-3K-4K Programs

A great education, while enjoying a wonderful childhood.
That’s what makes Shreiner's 2-, 3-, and 4-year-old programs remarkable.

*****

At the 2K – 3K – 4K level, we offer a challenging curriculum in an exciting and unique manner that encourages children to have fun while they happen to be learning. For the 2010-11 school year, we will offer both full-time and part-time preschool programs.

In addition to an excellent curriculum, we provide a loving, preschooler-friendly environment in spacious, airy classrooms. Bright, well-equipped, and well-designed classrooms, complete with a gallery of arts and crafts projects made by the students, make every day an adventure.

Shreiner Academy’s teachers are amazing. Their big hearts, top-notch credentials and experience, combined with the small student-to-teacher ratio, means that each child receives more individual attention. On average, Shreiner teachers have been with the school for five years.

We take the safety of the children seriously. For that reason, the school is equipped with keyless door locks and ID checks are made of all people that are not recognized. Additionally, background checks are made on all members of our faculty and staff.

Accreditation

State accreditation for a school at this age-level is rare. Yet Shreiner Academy has met the standards established by the Georgia Accrediting Commission (University of Georgia), and the school has been awarded the highest level of accreditation.

Curriculum

The academic program at the 2K – 3K – 4K level includes:

•  Letter recognition
•  Phonics
•  Math
•  Social studies
•  Science

The curriculum has been developed by an educational specialist exclusively for Shreiner Academy. The 4-K program includes basic concepts of reading, addition and subtraction skills.

Each child three years and older is individually tested to determine class placement. Those accepted into the program receive one-on-one computer training and tutoring in introductory language arts, reading and math. Because of the small class size, the teacher can devote quality time to each child, which is developmentally essential at this age.

Progress reports are issued three times each year for three-year-olds and four-year-olds. In addition, the academic work is placed in the child’s mailbox on a daily basis.

Exploration

Once a month, 2-, 3- and 4-year-old students venture to the northern end of the campus for story time in the library, a lesson in the science lab and a project in the home economics lab (e.g. cookie decorating).

Winter and spring shows in the school’s performing arts center, starring 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds, offer the children a chance to be up on stage. This is a lot of fun for all of us (parents included!) and is a great way to build self-esteem and self-confidence.

Shreiner Academy has 2 swimming pools and one of them has been specifically designed for 3- to 5-year-olds with a depth of 2 to 4 feet. The school employs Red Cross certified lifeguards.

Special Days and Events

Note: Each month the school distributes a calendar to preview the special activities planned for the upcoming month.
Special events include pony rides, astro jump, visits from the petting zoo, guest performers and theatrical performances. Shreiner Academy students celebrate all the traditional holidays. And in addition to their daily arts and crafts, a special day is set aside each month for unique craft projects.

The 4-year-old classes go on a variety of field trips throughout the year. Past destinations have included the Center for Puppetry Arts, Discovery Zone, Gymnastics Center and Zoo Atlanta. Parents are always welcome to join their children on field trips.

Delicious, hot, healthy meals, as well as snacks, are prepared in the school’s two kitchens. The 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds have their own menus designed by a nutritionist. Breakfast, lunch, and snack menus are posted in each building.

Competition for Shreiner Academy’s lower school placement is intense. One of the key advantages for students enrolled in the Academy’s 2K – 3K – 4K program is that they are given first priority for acceptance into our elementary program.

Programs offered are subject to change.

When our daughter first arrived at Shreiner, she was extremely timid and reserved. After a couple of weeks we saw a major change in her attitude and desire to learn. The Shreiner staff has an amazing ability to bring out the best in their students! They are true testament that through love and encouragement, possibilities are endless for children. Thank you for all that you have done!
