McKinley Stinson, Jr.
Music Teacher

McKinley Stinson, Jr. is currently the Music Director at Shreiner Academy. He holds a Masters degree in Percussion Performance from the Florida State University College of Music and a Bachelors degree in Percussion Performance from the University of South Carolina. His primary instructors include Dr. John W. Parks IV, Dr. Scott Herring, James Hall and Leon Anderson, Jr.

In the Fall of 2009, McKinley was appointed to the Assistant Director of Bands position at Alpharetta High School where he taught beginner guitar, advanced and intermediate percussion ensembles, jazz ensemble and assisted with band operations. McKinley was recently the guest conductor with the Alpharetta High School Wind Ensemble at the 2010 Georgia Music Educators In-Service Conference in Savannah and the Symphonic Band at the National Concert Band Festival in Carnegie Hall. He is currently the Percussion Coordinator at Alpharetta High School and the director of the AHS Junior Percussion Ensemble.

In addition to teaching and arranging, McKinley also performs over 120 concerts a year with Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass, a Christian brass chamber ensemble, and tours with fellow percussionist Brandon Wood as the North Star percussion Duo. After completing his B.M. at South Carolina, Stinson performed at the round Top Music Festival and Aspen Music Festival. In July 2007, McKinley performed at the Belly Up Aspen with the Marques Young Quintet and performed with international afro-pop artist Habib Koite. Solo appearances include performing Rosauro’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings with the USC Symphony Orchestra and performing at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention as a winner of the George P. Contrereas, Jr. Scholarship.

McKinley maintains a private studio in Fulton County. He has also traveled as a member of the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. He has recently married his lovely wife Jessica, a violinist. They reside in Roswell.
 

Shreiner has a family atmosphere. It’s challenging without being too rigid. I like the diversity—it’s truly an international academy.
